When it comes to tree banding, enough is enough.
Tanglefoot's Pest Barrier traps climbing insects such as obscure root and pecan weevils, ants, cankerworms, gypsy moth caterpillars, and army and tent caterpillars. These insects work their way up the trunks of fruit, shade, and ornamental trees in order to mate or deposit eggs, or rob trees by feeding on their leaves, buds and fruit. Used properly and as directed, Tanglefoot Pest Barrier poses no threat to trees, but anything that's good can also be bad when used in excessive amounts. Heavy use of Tree Tanglefoot Pest Barrier is not necessary, and excess use might leave an unsightly "ring around the tree."
Here's a simple solution which will help to eliminate both insect infestations as well as tree damage: before banding your trees with Tree Tanglefoot Pest Barrier, wrap the tree with Tangle Guard Tree Banding Material or some other waterproof material, such as duct tape, masking tape, or poly sheeting secured with rubber bands. Then, plug the gaps between the wrap and tree trunk with cotton batting, or a small amount of Tree Tanglefoot. (This is required for rough-barked trees only.) Now, insects crawl up the tree, encounter the Pest Barrier, and become trapped without any means of escape.
This is a strictly a mechanical solution, and there are no pesticides involved. Using the cotton will prevent insects from crawling under the banding materials or entering through crevices, and protect your trees from repeated use of Tanglefoot products. Remove the band when it becomes full of insects, and reapply as needed. Of course, banding materials should be removed at the end of the growing season.

How to protect nesting and roosting Bird families from unwelcome predators.
Although Tanglefoot produces several products to repel nuisance birds such as pigeons and starlings because of their messy and destructive behaviors, most backyard bird families are a welcome pleasure. Many consumers even encourage their visits and roosting by placing bird baths and houses or feeders amid their landscaping. Bird colonies, however, face constant threats from hungry predators such as cats, raccoons, and snakes. To protect your nesting and roosting bird families from such predators, use Tanglefoot's Pest Barrier.
Cats, raccoons and snakes will climb up poles or posts in order to reach birdhouses and nests, then feed on the hatchlings or eggs tucked inside. Snakes are a particular threat to bird colonies --they can swallow up to six birds or unhatched eggs in just one night. By applying Tanglefoot Pest Barrier to the pole or post --about 18 inches below the nest, birdhouse or roosting area --you can help to protect your bird families from predatory animals. Cats and raccoons abhor anything that sticks to their fur or paws, and snakes hate to crawl through it. After an unpleasant encounter with the sticky substance, they will soon learn to avoid the poles or posts and search for their meals elsewhere. Be careful to place the sticky band high enough to avoid contact with curious pets and children. There's nothing harmful in the formula, but it does create a sticky mess!

Having problems with cucumber beetles and other nasty garden pests?
Here's a creative (and non-toxic) way to help rid vegetable gardens of cucumber beetles and other pests. Simply use Tangle-Trap Insect Trap Coating, a clear and odorless trapping adhesive which is both pesticide and chemical-free. An easy solution is to brush the coating unto several small, bright-yellow bowls. Once the bowls are thoroughly coated, place them on the ground among your plants. Insects, which are attracted to the bright yellow color, climb into the bowls and become trapped without escape.
Another successful trapping method is to line the inside of a large bucket (preferably 5-gallon sized) with plastic. After the lining is in place, brush the plastic with Tangle-Trap Insect Trap Coating. Holding the bucket upside down, walk through the garden shaking your plants as you go. Flying insects and cucumber beetles will fly up as you shake the plants, and become trapped in the bucket. After trapping, simply remove the plastic and discard, then repeat the process as needed.
Tangle-Trap Insect Trap Coating endures all weather cycles and temperature changes, and is available in paste, brushable or aerosol formulas.

Like a clean dock? Or a duck-free swimming platform on your boat?
Now's the season for all those favorite outdoor water activities, such as swimming and boating, and one common problem during warm weather is the nuisance of birds roosting, nesting and "eliminating" on boat docks, swimming platforms and boats. We've got a safe, non-toxic method of discouraging birds from flocking to these areas.
Tangle Guard Repeller Ribbon is a wide holographic, iridescent foil ribbon that drives away unwanted birds by producing an audible and physical "discomfort zone." The ribbon projects a highly reflective image that is unsettling to birds. A light breeze will provide movement and a fierce, metallic rattle which encourages nuisance birds to keep their distance.
Tangle Guard Repeller Ribbon comes in a 2" width, in 25- or 100-foot rolls; a smaller 1" variety is now available in a 50-foot roll for smaller applications. Use the ribbon to discourage birds from orchards, trees, buildings, docks and structures, or any location where birds are unwanted. Application's easy, too. Simply cut the required number of two- or three-foot strips and affix them to your dock, raft or boat with string, velcro or twine. For additional help in discouraging nuisance birds, try our Tangle Guard Inflatable Bird Chaser.
